Helping Hand Services has been a family-owned business since 1971. William and Heather Atkinson are the third family to own and operate it in over 50 years. William was born and raised in the Birmingham area and graduated from UAB with a Bachelor's of Science in Biomedical Sciences. Heather and William got married in November of 2021. He currently works at the VA and assists with the business as needed. His hobbies include hanging out with family and friends including cuddling any of their six pets (a dog, three cats, and two rabbits). 

Heather Atkinson was born in Birmingham but was raised all over the South as a member of an Army family. She ultimately came back to Birmingham for college and graduated from UAB with a Bachelor's of Science in Biomedical Engineering. She worked as an engineer for two years before pivoting to run the business. Her passion lies with serving her community, and she has a calling to do so through the business. Her hobbies include spending time outside, reading, or with family or friends.
